Some families have already gone past the stage where an operating business is their main focus and concern. They may have had a recent “liquidity event” or be a generation or more past that stage.
If there is a certain level of financial wealth involved and there are a number of family members who are its beneficiaries, making sure everyone is in agreement with key decisions can become important.
When there’s an upcoming generational transition on the horizon, such families need to work together to figure out how things will look in the future.
This is about much more that legal agreements and dollar signs, it’s about how the family is going to make important decisions together.
Such “interdependent families” will often require an outside resource to help them co-create the agreements that will be necessary for them to continue to enjoy the benefits of remaining together as a cohesive family.
When family members need to plan for the future of their wealth, it’s easy to lose focus when you only think about the finances and lose sight of the human capital in the family.
If your family should be having conversations about this but you’re having trouble getting started, please get in touch and I’ll see if I can point you in the right direction.
Work With Steve
I love talking to people from the world of enterprising families. I know how hard it can be for people in your position to find someone you can trust to share your stories and challenges with. My first priority to you is to build that trust so that we can then see if it might make sense for us to work together. We probably won’t even start to discuss any of those details until at least our second call. So let’s set up that first call, and explore your family situation and see if we can relate to each other about the challenges you’re facing. Please book a 1-hour call so we can take our time and figure out if we are meant to work together.
